Not so Sunny San Diego

For our Christmas present this last year Paul's parents rented a beach house for a week right on the beach in San Diego. It was a fun and interesting house that I wish I had taken some pictures of. It had enough bedrooms and bathrooms for Paul's whole family and our kids. I have to say I was a little disappointed at first in the weather since it was in the 60's when we got there, especially since we left 90 degree weather in Texas. It actually reminded me a lot of Northern California beaches - over cast, freezing water and some wind, very unusual for San Diego in June. Luckily, the colder weather didn't stop any of us from having a blast in the sand and getting in the water! Luckily the last two days we were there the sun decided to make an appearance and it warmed up to the 70's. We had so much fun seeing all of Paul family from Utah (except Dallin, we missed you D!) Paul's parents think that they will do something like this every year for our Christmas present...Amen to that! Thanks Ed and Lorie it was the best beach trip!

The Family

Mermaid fins made by Aunt Amy. Ellie and Eliza just love Amy. They love the fact that she was a Disney princess at Disney World, how cool is that? She also was nice enough to run with me in the morning along the beach, it was so much fun, thanks Amy!
Grant and Paul ready to boogie board, I love that they're holding hands.

Paul and Spencer win the award for most time in the water. When all of us were freezing and wrapped up in our towels, they were getting in as many waves as they could. They literally spent hours every day in that cold water.
The crazies and zz. There were all sorts of little shops just within walking distance from our house and there was even this little mini carnival with rides and games.

Grant and Paul riding the scary roller coaster. It looked so old I was afraid that it might break.

Papa and Grant building one of the many sand castles.
The kids worked on this wall for hours in hopes that they would build it big enough that the tide wouldn't wash it away. Each morning they would run out to see if it was still there and then of course start building another one.
Happy faces.

The best seashell collectors.
That's right baby, ride it all the way in!
Getting the whole beach experience.

Lisa, Whitney (her nanny) and me.
Seriously, my favorite thing was boogie boarding with Grant. There is something so sweet (I know that sounds corny, but it's true) about catching the same wave with your son and riding it all the way in laughing your heads off.

One of the many little heads we found in the sand.
Mimi, holding a sleeping Z.
One of his proudest pictures. He rented a surf board for a week and got a whole lot of action out of it.

You can't drive all the way to San Diego with out visiting Shamu at Sea World!
A scary shark who looked like he wanted to eat me.

There is more to Sea World than just fish, there are all sorts of activities for the kidlets.
Grover and Lu-Lu
Sitting in the soak zone. I wondered why hardly anybody was sitting in the bottom three rows at the Shamu show, I mean come on, doesn't every body want to get splashed by a killer whale? That was until we got splashed by Shamu's ginormous tail and literally looked like we had jumped into a swimming pool. So who cares if I had to walk around with smeared mascara and wet frizzy hair, at least I had the ultimate Sea World experience right? We had a fabulous trip in San Diego and loved spending time with the awesome Watts clan, we just love you guys and miss you like crazy! Congratulations if you made it this far into the post.

"La-la Queen" Birthday!

Is it possible that two years has already gone by? I can't believe my baby is two years old. I'm sad and happy at the same time. I know everybody says that, but it's true. Babies grow up way too fast. We wanted to have a little celebration for our little Z, so we had a little family party today. He loves Lightning McQueen, no, more like obsessed! He is in love with the movie and all the characters. I really wanted to make him a car cake but decided I didn't want to spend my whole day trying to figure it out. I ended up making a race track cake that turned out pretty cute. We just love Zz, he's such a little fire ball and acts like a little tough guy. He's king of scowls and thinks he's a lot bigger than he really is, at the same time he's a little softie, and can't resist snuggling with his Mama while rocking in the rocking chair. I think we'll keep him!

Zachary, two years ago! What a cutie!
I'm no cake decorator, but I'm pretty pleased with my last minute creation. Two round cakes, green sprinkles, crushed chocolate cookies, some white good and plenty, your favorite toy cars and voila. Oh, and Grant made the cute little checkered flags. Zach was in heaven with his special cake.

I tried to get a perfect picture of him blowing out the candles.

Unfortunately I was a few seconds behind, oh well. Notice Eliza with Grants hand covering her mouth making sure she didn't blow out the candles...he's so helpful ; )

Grant gave Zach the hippie van, Fillmore. He told me he couldn't wait till Zach's next birthday so he could buy him another present.

Zach loved pointing to each car and telling us who each character is.
Eliza was so excited to pick out a present for Zach, she was as happy as he was to get Mater and Sheriff.

It's about time!

I apologize to all of you who check my blog regularly (I think there's like 3 of you, and you know who you are!) for doing such a terrible job of blogging. I have a good excuse, really! We have been to New Mexico, Arizona, San Diego, Placerville and Lake Tahoe (o.k., so we drove through New Mexico, and Arizona, but did stop for a day to visit some friends in Phoenix) Not to mention that after our two and half week vacation in California we moved from Austin to Fort Worth (I'm still unpacking boxes), and Paul started his new job with Bell Helicopter! So, I've been a little busy and to be totally honest, I kind of liked not having any internet for a while (I'm sure some of you think I'm crazy) I felt no pressure to check my email, or blog, it was kind of nice to put that aside for a while. Well, after living here for two weeks with no cable or internet I figured it was time to get back to the real world and get the internet hooked up. I'm ready to get back on the blogging bandwagon again, I hate seeing my name at the bottom of every body's list saying that it's been 2 MONTHS since my last post! So get ready for some long posts with lots of pictures! I'll try not to bore anybody too bad. Come back real soon!
