Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth

4 HOURS 11 MINUTES AND 20 SECONDS!
Well, I've done it! I'm now officially a marathoner. I've got some stiff muscles, and I look pretty silly trying to walk up or down stairs, but I feel amazing! Was it worth it? Totally! Would I do it again? In a heart beat! I could not have done it without my sweet husband and children's support and excitement for me. Thanks Paul, Grant, Eliza and Zachary, you really are the best!

Marathon day was exhilarating! The Fort Worth Cow Town Marathon was an event I will never forget! I was surprised that I felt good the whole race, much better than I felt for Top of Utah Marathon for sure. I had such a rush of excitement and energy all 26.2 miles. Talk about runners high. I loved my marathon! Memorable highlights were:

An older man we met the first few miles who told us that the only thing better than running up hill is running up hill with a head wind! He said hello to every one he passed and thanked helpers along the way. His great attitude really rubbed off and helped lift my spirits!

Funny signs like: "Bananas, jellybeans, Vaseline, we're not kinky, just want you to finish". "Free beer for runners", "Toe Nails are for wimps"

The food: Snickers, the best thing I ate around mile 14 and again at mile 22 (didn't like it much then) gummy life savors, jelly beans.

The guy running with a cow costume on trying to pump everyone up.

All the little kids watching along the course that would stick there hands out to give you five.

The beautiful old neighborhoods and parks we ran through.

A young boy band playing in front of their house, and the awesome lady playing her violin wildly next to the course. Anyone who played instruments as we passed were awesome!

Seeing mile marker 26 and knowing I only had .2 to go!!!

The best was seeing my family cheering me on at three different locations on the course!

Here's my cute little crew.

A huge thanks to my kids and husband, they were so great and supportive through all of this, especially Paul! He spent hours with the kids on Saturday mornings, made late night Gatorade runs, cooked up Friday night pasta dinners and has been exited and supportive every step of the way. He helped the kids make me posters, and they were there to cheer me on at miles 13, 20 and the finish line. Grant even ran with me for a little while at mile 20, he's such a little stud!

Mile 20!

The biggest advice I would give anyone thinking about training for a marathon would be to get a buddy. I could not have done this without my incredible running partner and now dear friend, Ashley. It would have been impossible to get up at 5:00am and run in the dark in 30 degree temperatures alone. We had so much fun together, talking pretty much every minute of every mile and high fives after every run! I couldn't ask for a better running buddy. One of the best things we did was to put our nick names on the back of our shirts. It was always such a boost when someone would yell out, "Go Glow, Go Smash!" I would highly recommend that to anyone entering any race!

We made it into the Austin Statesman Newspaper! It captured the moment perfectly. Just go to the link below and check us out, we are the 6th picture.
