Gingerbread...it's a peice of cake

So this year we thought we'd start a new tradition by making a gingerbread house from scratch. Everybody told me to go buy a kit, that it would be much easier. I decided that it just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't home made. It was more tedious than I had anticipated, of course the kids had a blast and I think we ate more candy than what went onto the house, long story short...we'll be buying a kit next year.

Homemade's the best! Your house looks really nice. Good job.

Not as nice as your hand shredded ginger and cinnamon creation. I bet that was quite the project. I think eating the gingerbread dough, and smelling it bake are the best parts of homemade gingerbread.

Yeah- I don't know how to fix the pictures. Your blog looks great though! And the 70's jacket is the best- I totally would have stolen it to bring it home.

The kits look so nice with it all baked and ready. But thats the devil talking. The best things in life take hard work. It's so worth it to smell that gingerbread baking. You don't get that smell from the kits. I wont tell you how I found that out though.

Amy, thank you for your words of wisdom. I'm sure that in the next 300 day's before Christmas I'll feel like making it again.

Yay! New posts! You are such a fun Mom to do things like this! I hope your kids know how lucky they are!

I must say, I am very impressed you did it from scratch! I have no shame in saying that we did the kit one this year! However, we did make gingerbread men from scratch. Did your kids try to eat it after Christmas? Rowan was so excited to eat hers, but when she tried to it was like breaking and eating concrete. Those things are strong!

Jenny, thanks for your comments, it's always great to hear from you. My kids couldn't wait to come home from our vacation to eat the gingerbread house. They picked at it a little and realized it was just like you said, hard as a rock. They lost interest pretty quickly, though they did eat off all the gumdrops before I dumped it.
